It is with great sorrow and a very heavy heart that we must announce the passing of Doug Mudd on Wednesday 15th December 2021. 

Doug was one of Europe's finest and most respected makers of bonsai display furniture and was the founding member of the EBPC furniture section. A much loved member of the bonsai community and a devoted member of Wirral Bonsai Society. Doug was a true gentleman and the nicest person you could hope to meet. He was a mentor to up and coming table makers, and thoroughly enjoyed helping them advance. 

​Doug only managed to create a few tables for the EBPC before he tragically became ill. The table he was working on at the time, and could not finish is now the most treasured piece in the EBPC collection and will be used in pot displays for years to come in honour of this incredibly talented and inspirational man. The table is pictured below with an antique Chinese pot. 

Doug recently submitted a display to Expo Bonsai UK 2022, which has been accepted and will be displayed.

​His tables will also be enjoyed for decades to come at leading bonsai exhibitions.

​Doug will be remembered and greatly missed by many and our deepest condolences go out to Doug's wife Christine and family and friends.
​Rest in peace my friend! 

Pictured above is the plaque recording and celebrating all of the stamps and signatures used by Andrew Pearson of Stone Monkey Ceramics throughout his career. Currently the only such plaque in existence, Andrew kindly produced this for the EBPC to be used for pot displays and it can be seen above in the company of plaques by Japanese greats - Gyouzan, Bigei, Reiho, and Kakuzan. 

Revered across the bonsai world, Stone Monkey Ceramics comprehends and is conscious of the the tree-pot marriage and produces excellent designs, in a variety of forms and finishes that suit trees impeccably. As the first Westener to have been invited to participate in the world's leading bonsai exhibition and small pot contest, 'The Gafu-ten', (which he won first place in the unglazed section!!) we thought it fitting to have such a plaque made by Andrew - the first by a European potter as far as we know. 

The EBPC are proud to support such artists, and we are very excited to be able to offer a range of 20 exclusive pots by this leading artist - COMING VERY SOON!

Antony and Mavourneen Smith ...aka ‘Willow Bonsai Pots’ are a wonderful couple from Pretoria, who have been passionately pushing the boundaries for South African bonsai and have become popular on the European bonsai scene. Antony demonstrated at the U.K. National Bonsai Show 2019, and whilst in London, I took the couple to visit leading potters; Stone Monkey Ceramics and Walsall Studio Ceramics. Having spent some time with them, it really was inspiring to see their dedication to bonsai and to creating attractive, useable and affordable pots.
 
We are excited to announce that Willow Bonsai Pots are producing a limited edition EBPC Stamped range of their beautiful pots, with some of their best forms and glazes. These will be available in the EBPC store, and will be released at ‘The Trophy’ exhibition, in Belgium at the end of February 2020.

The bonsai workshop was busy again, and some great trees were worked on over the two days. A variety of games and raffles were also arranged, with many local businesses around Ashford kindly donating raffle prizes. In addition to raising money for a great cause, a fun weekend was had by all.
