WELCOME! .. Shay Cohen of O-Yaku, Israel

Please join us in offering a warm EBPC welcome to the very talented new EBPC member - Shay Cohen of Israel!

Shay Cohen is an accomplished ceramist with an eye for detail and a passion for creativity. A professional bonsai artist, managing the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens bonsai collection, ceramist, and product designer in Israel, Shay has been creating wonderful ceramic pots for his own, his customers, and students trees for 6 years now, and we are delighted to have discovered this hidden talent. 

​Although highly creative and not afraid to push the boundaries, Shay is mostly inspired by traditional shapes and Japanese styles, keeping the walls thin and using the lip and feet to give the desired character. 'I make my own glazes and for the porcelain pieces, my own clay body.'

​Roy Minarai USA once inscribed on the underside of an EBPC pot he made 'Art has no boarders'.

Bonsai should be inclusive and although the EBPC promotes great European potters, we are not blind to the great works taking place outside of Europe. We love to celebrate and make it possible for you to also discover these artists and acquire such works if you wish.
​As with some other great artists who are in Japan, U.S.A., S. Africa, etc, we are thrilled to welcome Shay Cohen as an ‘honorary member’ to the EBPC family

The above shown pot was O-Yaku's spectacular entry in the EBPC pot display, at the prestigious 2024 Trophy exhibition. Shay also produced the intricate accent light, a wonderful and fresh display, and something not seen before.

​Shay uses a variety of techniques in building his pots, including; wheel, slab, coil, carving and slip casting. 'I also like to combine techniques and use them where they have better advantage. The design process is largely influenced by the chosen finish. If a crystalline glaze is required for example, then the entire design will revolve around preventing running and proper glaze application. I am hoping to expand my possibilities by adding a gas or wood fire kiln in the future'.  ​

A selection of magnificent bespoke pots, made especially for O-Yaku's EBPC launch will be available in EBPC Online Shop on Sunday (23/06) morning 10.00am (G.M.T.) - There are only a few, so be sure not to miss out!
