Fusion Ceramics - The Netherlands

Fusion Ceramics was founded by an exciting up and coming Dutch artist, Niels van der Wal.
As has been the case with many great artists, in a short amount of time, Niels was creating fantastic looking hand-made ceramics that boasted technical proficiency as well as harmonious designs for use with bonsai. A fusion of refined Japanese aesthetics with contemporary modern designs, Niels has developed his own distinctive style, which is recognisable at a glance - another common trait of a great artist!
Many Fusion pots have traditional forms, with revised contemporary details, in mostly shohin and chuhin sizes. Niels also enjoys creating his own glaze recipies, which really is an art in itself! (or alchemy!)
'Already at a young age I was inspired by the land of the rising sun, kungfu & ninja movies, and of course the Karate Kid. Stories about samurai, also motivated me to undertake years of karate practice. I share this passion for Japan with my wife, which includes our regular trips to Japan. During our trips I gained a lot of inspiration for our garden and Japanese koi pond, and these of course combine wonderfully with bonsai.
It took a long time before I seriously took the step to bonsai. My wife had been collecting ceramics for a long time and then also started making beautiful ceramics herself (studio Vu-inteji). This gave me the opportunity to try something myself, accompanied by a YouTube video by Dan Barton, the first bonsai pot was created. And thanks to the great support of my wife and friends, we are now here two and a half years later, full of inspiration and creativity that has finally found its place after all these years.'
