Born in a picturesque Swiss town in the district of Affoltern in 1995, Robin took an early interest in bonsai over a decade ago, when he was just 17 years old. His passion for bonsai has continued to increase, and in 2017 Robin began fabricating bonsai pots for his own trees, experimenting with different materials, and taking inspiration from nature and from artist Jan Culek.
Robin’s slab style pots became more refined and more popular and so in 2019, as organically as his work itself, SlabndBonsai was born!
SlabndBonsai works are artificial rock creations constructed from a modern composite material. The impressive rock-like textures including dimples and rock strata, which combines with the natural tones, convincingly imitate the essence of natural rock. ‘What I really enjoy, is creating the best possible rock/slab, together with a customer, based on their vision for a special tree. Seeing the fit perfectly with its pot/rock is very exciting and fascinating.
Robin thrives outdoors with nature, and for a living he is a landscape gardener. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking and skiing .. and sometimes collecting Yamadori!
