Wabi Sabi Studio - Poland

By Adam Łuczak

It all started 15 years ago, when in around 2010, Adam Łuczak of Poland first tried pottery. Instantly, he fell in love with clay and with the feel of the potter's wheel. A lifelong 'Ikigai' was nurtured, and 5 years later, Adam turned this passion and experience to creating bonsai pots - initially for his own beloved bonsai and for friend's trees. Soon after - Wabi Sabi Studio was born, and has since become a popular and trusted studio within the European bonsai scene.

The main inspiration for Wabi Sabi Studio's creations is nature - from which organic textures and colours are expressed. Although the pottery wheel remains Adam's favoured method, Wabi Sabi pots are also made using many other techniques, including slab building and pinch pots. The
inspirational glazes are all self-made, and Adam enjoys experimenting and honing his formulations, applications and techniques.

In addition to natural tones, Adam is also known for his impressive crystalline glazes, as made famous by the great Heian Tofukuji, and later mastered by just a few greats such as the recently deceased 'Koyo'. Adam's love for Japanese bonsai ceramics also influences his work, which is reflected in both his forms and glazes, albeit with a contemporary 'Wabi Sabi' twist. Various forms and sizes are created, including ovals and rectangles up to 80cm in length.

When not making high fired (frost resistant) bonsai ceramics, Adam also enjoys creating Raku pieces (in a gas kiln), and ceramics for Ikebana (flower arranging) and  'Chanoyu', the Japanese tea ceremony.

It is an honour to welcome Wabi Sabi Studios to the EBPC, and we look forward to making his work available over the coming years.
