Inspirational pots by one of Europe’s true greats!
- Ian Baillie is one of Europe’s pioneering greats, having been making bonsai pots since the mid 1970’s, and remains a favourite of many practitioners.
- The reason is the distinct style of Ian’s pots. Apparent from a glance to the discernible viewer.
- Ian doesn't feel the need to create egotistical pots, concentrating instead on his classical designs and his magnificent finishes - that are so perfect for bonsai.
‘Shibui’ in design, and superior in quality.
A small selection of the pots available!
Pots In-Store WEDNESDAY 31.1.24 from 19.00 (g.m.t.)
You can find the pots here ... https://europeanbonsaipottercollective.ecwid.com/EBPC-Pot-Shop-c31643116
Most pots are hand-thrown on a Swedish kick-powered wheel, where Ian ‘gets in the zone’. As a long-time grower of his own trees, Ian is able to transfer his comprehension of bonsai effectively into his bonsai ceramics.
‘I blend my own clays and use two types in particular, a pale oatmeal colour which gives a great colour response to glazes and a dark reddish brown which suits my unglazed pots. I specialise in modifying glazes by applying metal oxides in and over my base glazes to achieve individual effects and this results in no two pots ever being identical. I want them to show the hand of the potter in their creation. This is important to me as it sets them apart from those that are mass-produced pots.’

The reflective glazes of Sabine Besnard
The tones and textures of nature have always been the main inspiration for Sabine Besnard's glazes. Together with her husband Francois, glazes are created and recreated, often experimenting for months, until the desired effects are realised.
