Bonsaikeramik - Germany
By Walter Venne
Walter Venne
Germany is home not also to great engineering, but also great bonsai ceramics – including those by the highly regarded Walter Venne. Walter creates impressive, high quality hand-made pots, with bodies made without the use of forms. Years of experience have refined the form and shapes, and Walter also has a wonderful eye and mastery of glazes.
Walter began creating bonsai ceramics out of necessity for his own trees and those of friends. 40 years ago when the spark for bonsai first ignited in Walter, there was little access to bonsai ceramics, and the artist soon found he had a true passion for the ceramics production as well as the bonsai he cared for.
Inspiration for forms, textures and surfaces come mostly from nature and the details of plants and rocks observed on country walks. These natural tones and textures can be seen in Walter's glazes, and together with the great forms and proportions, Walter Venne pots enhance a good bonsai tree seamlessly.
Walter Venne pots have a wonderfully distinct charm and are often instantly recognisable by his wonderful glazes, characteristic forms and trade mark drainage holes. His works are used by leading bonsai artists and can be often be seen housing trees on display at leading European exhibitions.
