Bruno Auvinet Ceramics - France
By Bruno Auvinet
Bruno Auvinet
Prominent French bonsai ceramist Bruno Auvinet has been keenly growing bonsai for 25 years and like many great bonsai ceramists, initially made pots for his own trees. For over 10 years now Bruno has been producing hand-made pots for a variety of styles of bonsai and his works are very popular in French and European bonsai. 'While I couldn't find suitable pots for my bonsais , I challenged myself to create them myself. This is how the adventure began, with the discovery of work on enamels, textures, patinas.’
Each piece is unique and has it’s own identity. The pots are well proportioned and traditional in their form. They are cooked in an electric kiln, to 1250° C, so as to ensure frost-resistance and usually dressed in spectacular yet often subdued glazes, which include wonderful versions of older classical glazes, such as Antique Chinese crackle glazes, together with more modern and experimental glazes.
Influences are widespread, although Bruno has always been greatly inspired by British potters such as: Aspinall, Duffett, Albright and Pitt. ‘Nothing in my adventure would exist without the beauty of the pots that other bonsai ceramists have created’.
Bruno is a lover of nature, and an ‘outdoors’ person. As well as his love for bonsai, Bruno also enjoys taking part in activities such as paragliding and hiking. Bruno trades at some of Europe's most prestigious bonsai exhibitions, such as 'The Trophy' in Belgium, and his works can also be seen displayed with high level trees at some exhibitions.
