Imbo Bonsai tables by Alex Imbo.
Alex Imbeault was just 8 years old when he first saw the ‘Karate Kid’ movie and, like so many others - has been captivated by bonsai ever since. 25 years on, and Alex still enjoys working on his bonsai. He attends the ‘Michele Andolfo Bonsai Academy’ and is recently becoming well-known around the world, for the high-quality hand-crafted tables he produces for the displaying of bonsai.
In his full-time job, Alex works with carpentry, and his enduring passions for both bonsai and working with wood, have lead to this inevitability. The classical designs, details and finishes of Imbo Bonsai Tables are much inspired by the tables seen in Japanese exhibitions, together with some of Europe’s leading table makers. Alex would like it noted that European artists Doug Mudd, Roberto Mestre and David Russel have all been very helpful and encouraging for which he is eternally grateful.
Made from quality hardwoods such as American Walnut, Sapele Mahogany & European Beechwood, Imbo Bonsai Tables are hand-crafted using traditional cabinetmaking techniques. Once constructed, tables are all stained by hand with oil, a finish that is both time consuming and highly meticulous. Alex understands the Japanese rules relating to trees, tables and dimensions and his tables have aesthetically pleasing and functional proportions, in addition to elegance of design and meticulous finishes.
In an effort to support great artists, and provide the EBPC community access to excellent bonsai pots and furniture, the EBPC welcomes some ‘honorary members’, who although not from Europe, are leading artists producing pots or furniture to a high standard.
