Mirt Bonsai Pots
By Marjan Mirt - Slovenia
Majan Mirt
Born in Ljubljana in Slovenia, Marjan Mirt is a dedicated bonsai enthusiast of many years. After retiring some seven years ago, Marjan continued his passion and started creating bonsai pots. 'I was lucky that in Slovenia we have a very old, rich tradition of classic pottery and I was fortunate to learn a lot from the old masters of the basic of pottery, but now I have created my own style of bonsai pots.
All pots are handmade and are mostly slab-built. Each is unique, yet conforms to the distinct style of 'Mirt bonsai pots. 'I like that my pots are big and heavy and I really enjoy making unique, hand made pots which are are not too aggressive. The bonsai is the most important focus and the pot completes the whole picture'. Marjan continues to enjoy working on his collection of trees and much of his inspiration is drawn from them and other bonsai.
The majority of Mirt pots are large unglazed pots of various classical shapes and forms, some of which have subtle details, such carved banding, rivets and Mirt cloud feet. Marjan also however creates some wonderful glazes, which he applies on both his brown and white clay pots.
