By María José González
María José González is an accomplished ceramist of 30 years from Madrid, Spain. Bonsai and related ceramics is her profession, and works are developed in a small studio-workshop near Madrid. Here the whole process of creation occurs and production of all pieces is completely handmade.
María José specialises not only in bonsai pots, but also kusamono and shitakusa containers for Ikebana, and also some suiban for suiseki, the art of stone appreciation. She enjoys researching textures and glazes, in addition to modelling small bronze sculptures.
I'm Mª José and I'm dedicated to creative ceramics, for which I use clays, stoneware and refractory chamotados pastes, some of them prepared in the workshop, which are cooked at 1260-80º C. This guarantees the resistance, porosity and quality so necessary in pots that are going to be used outdoors.
Mariía José is very passionate about ceramics and her work. Inspirations come from a lifetime of appreciating Japanese ceramics, combined with the forms, colours and textures she sees in nature.
