Shibusa Bonsai Pots - Italy
By Lorenzo Penello.
Shibusa Pots are the creation of talented Italian ceramist, Lorenzo Penello.
Lorenzo has been a bonsai enthusiast for many years. He has studied ceramics and has been a bonsai ceramist since 2017, employing a variety of techniques for his creations. The methods used for the creation of his pots were learnt from his master artist/friend Piero Cantù who, thanks to his patience and availability, passed on to him this method, which I would say is 'unique' and differs from the classic methods used by most potters. This artist is also largely inspired by Japanese books, and pots studied at the Kokufu Exhibition in Japan.
Lorenzo specialises in organic style pots, especially nanban and rock imitation moon style pots. Shohin and mame sized pots, are also a favourite and Lorenzo enjoys experimenting with glazes as much as textures. He also makes medium-sized vases on request (max. 60 cm); he does not like to make rectangular vases with 90° angles ..... each one has its own particularities.
The name Shibusa originates from the word that derives from the Japanese language, which among the various translations also means SIMPLICITY, from this we can deduce his own creations of vases, very simple in form but at the same time with characteristics of elegance.
