Lotus Bonsai Studio - France

Giang Nguyen
Giang is a superbly talented self-taught artist from Bordeaux in France, who’s fantastic work is inspired by and evokes feelings of the beauty of nature. Mostly shohin, mame and accent pots and pieces; including figurines are created, and Giang devotes considerable time and commitment into producing these high quality, original pieces.
He was born in Vietnam, where under Communist repression young Giang would replicate items he saw around him, from the black sticky clay of the rice fields. He would form clay huts, animals and the people that he watched working in the fields. He also learned a lot about bonsai, penjing, and related philosophies from his grandparents and their collection of trees.
Aged 14, Giang came to France as a political refugee, and there studied and work in the field of Biology. Only recently in 2013, did he manage to leave his job to follow his passion in clay, sculpting and bonsai, and Lotus Bonsai Studio was born.
Working on his ceramics in the quiet of night, Giang finds creativity in the early hours, and tends his bonsai trees by day. Each pot is unique, signed and dated, and often depict landscape scenes or animals.
