Evolution in actionI would like to extend a huge thank you to Wirral Bonsai Society and all those that attended Wednesday evening's talk on the EBPC and the evolution of bonsai pottery. I was very honoured to present a talk to such a great club, one which I have always held in high esteem. After a six hour drive, I was very pleased to be met with a (soft) drink and many friendly welcoming club members. There was a great turnout, with some having ventured from as far as Wales and Manchester. Members brought along some beautiful trees and suiseki for the display, and some pots for identification and to admire! The standard of members trees was most impressive and the club has a fantastic atmosphere. Below are just a few examples. From representing; a status symbol to the Chinese literati, to a spiritual symbol to Zen Buddhists of Japan, to a new art-form in the West - the talk followed the evolution of ceramics used for miniature trees over hundreds of years, as a reflection to the changing trends in 'bonsai' practice. The second part of the talk went on to discuss the EBPC, the incredible pots and potters and their place within this evolution. Photographs and example pots were discussed, and many of the pots that were brought for sale were enthusiastically snapped up by the audience. Again, we thank you all sincerely for your support for the EBPC and the European potters. Talks are available in a range of bonsai pottery related topics.
