A warm welcome to Eddie Curtis - to the EBPC community of acclaimed bonsai ceramists!
Along with a tree, the pot is an essential part of a bonsai, both functionally and aesthetically. The appropriate choice of pot can be very useful in promoting certain features of a tree, and in suggesting the environment and story behind that bonsai. Eddie's magnificent and suggestive bonsai ceramics are tactile and highly emotive, offering the bonsai artist a fresh, alternative approach to pot selection for exhibition quality trees. 'Discovered' by our mutual friend, the much loved Andrew Pearson, of Stone Monkey Ceramics, at a prestigious ceramics exhibition, Eddie was persuaded to create a series of pots for use with bonsai, which until then he had only done for his own trees. A project is also currently underway with Peter Warren, who is creating 2 bonsai through a collaboration of Eddie's work and 2 of his own trees. I believe that the 'crossing over' of this celebreated artist from Studio pottery to bonsai ceramics will be beneficial to the ongoing evolution of European bonsai and its ceramics, which will also introduce the world of bonsai to the far greater audience of studio pottery enthusiasts around the world.

A great talent from the Netherlands! Please join us in welcoming Michal Mokry to the EBPC family. Michal Mokry is a very talented bonsai ceramist from the Netherlands, currently producing exciting glazed bonsai pots in contemporary designs, inspired by core traditional styles. Mindful of the intricates of bonsai display, this artist strives to creating pots that work most harmoniously with a tree. With clean straight lines and often seamlessly integrated feet, the tree remains the main focus of the composition, yet on closer inspection the shibui quality and dynamic glazes never fail to astound! Pots are made by a variety of methods, including ‘kurinuki’ hand-carved mame sized pots, and slab building for the Shohin and larger pots. Michal has also made some of his own forms/moulds by way of 3D printing, which he uses to help form the main body of more complex designs. Read more about Michal and his work in his EBPC 'Artist Profile' here! Your support enables us to bring you more .. More Info, more Choice & more Value! Please JOIN US in welcoming new EBPC member - Igor Carino, of Italy !Please join us in welcoming a world-class artist, ‘Igor Carino’ as an EBPC member! This inspirational artist has dedicated himself to bonsai for 20 years and has been creating bonsai ceramics for 18. For the past decade, Igor has been researching how to realize his dream – creating bonsai ceramics through the fusion of traditional pot-building principles with cutting-edge modern technology. His exceptional 3D-Printed pots won 1st prize at the famous pot contest of the 47th Gafu ten in Kyoto, as well as contests in Europe. These fascinating pieces have incredible detail in their design and patterned finish, yet retain all of the charms of old Japanese anagama-fired ceramics. Each pot from this process is unique, and the pots have a superb wood-fired sheen, with flame signatures, and natural ash deposit glazes. Please read about these innovative pots and this great artist on Igor Carino’s EBPC Profile A LIMITED EDITION RANGE of Gafu ten winning design pots will be IN-STORE on FRIDAY at 18.00 GMT! A select range of these Gafu-ten winning design pots will be made available for EBPC customers tomorrow (Friday 21st April) in the EBPC Online Store. These award-winning pots are hand built at the base, and then, once designed and a computer program is built, they are 3D printed using traditional clay - high-quality Japanese or French stoneware. The pots are constantly attended to during this long process and then are finished by hand. The rim is then hand built, and once leather hard, areas of the pots are smoothed to a polished finish. The pots are then wood-fired for 11 hours, another process that requires constant attention, in a special high-temperature wood-fired kiln (1350°C), designed and built by ceramic artist and kiln expert Frederick L. Olsen. A mix between traditional Western wood kilns and Japanese kilns. #Europeanbonsaipottercollective #ebpcpot #igorcarino #bonsaipot #woodfiredpottery #3dprint #3dprinted #bonsaiceramics #bonsaiitalia #bonsai With a wonderful variety of forms and fantastic designs and glazes, all pots are handmade to Ilker's own designs, inspired by the classics.
