IAN BAILLIE bonsai pots - In-Store today!   (from 18.00 gmt)

29/11/2025

Comments

Timeless glazes and forms.

My favourite part of this job is when new batches of pots arrive from one of the true greats of European bonsai ceramics.
Picture
An inspirational artist and a true gentleman, Ian Baillie of Scotland was one of the pioneers in the field of European bonsai ceramics, having been providing Europe with exquisite bonsai pots for decades. Ian was also instrumental in creating the Scottish Bonsai Association in 1978, which thrives to this day.

Ian makes a low quantity of high quality ceramics - producing limited batches 2 or 3 times a year. The EBPC is very proud to be the main supplier of these magnificent bonsai ceramics, and we thank Ian for his ongoing trust and support.

On Saturday 29th Nov., a batch of 14 pots will be available in-store, which will be the 22nd EBPC stamped batch we have sold for Ian over the past 8 years.

You can admire or buy the pots (after 18.00 gmt) In-Store here!

I feel this pot encompasses many of the characteristics that make Ian's pots so popular and timeless. The impressive aged-looking multi-layer glaze is quite typical of Ian's work, as are the scroll feet and thin banding, both of which are quite traditional features that add further refinement to these distinguished containers.

Ian's work is known for the recognisable style we have got to know over decades. His techniques have been honed and his pallet of forms and glazes enriched, whilst always remaining true to his distinct style.

A limited edition of 14 pots will be available from 18.00 g.m.t. / 19.00 c.e.t. on Saturday 29th November.
Please note: We regrettably do not currently ship to the United States of America

Thank you for supporting the EBPC and helping us bring you great European bonsai ceramics and furniture.

When 4 decades of Studio Pottery expertise meets bonsai

30/7/2025

A warm welcome to Eddie Curtis - to the EBPC community of acclaimed bonsai ceramists!

Please join us in welcoming the highly acclaimed Studio Pottery ceramist, Eddie Curtis of the UK to the EBPC.
An exciting and momentous occasion for bonsai and its ceramics. Eddie brings decades of ceramic passion and expertise to European bonsai, with magnificent forms, glazes and textures as of yet unseen in quite this way in the bonsai world. Some of which represent the epitome of traditional Japanese ceramic finishes and others unique and originally created by himself.
Picture
Picture

Having long been a keen grower of bonsai, in his professional career, Eddie has passionately strived to recreate landscapes and natural textures through ceramic form and finishes.
Picture
Along with a tree, the pot is an essential part of a bonsai, both functionally and aesthetically. The appropriate choice of pot can be very useful in promoting certain features of a tree, and in suggesting the environment and story behind that bonsai.

Eddie's magnificent and suggestive bonsai ceramics are tactile and highly emotive, offering the bonsai artist a fresh, alternative approach to pot selection for exhibition quality trees.
Picture
Picture
'Discovered' by our mutual friend, the much loved Andrew Pearson, of Stone Monkey Ceramics, at a prestigious ceramics exhibition, Eddie was persuaded to create a series of pots for use with bonsai, which until then he had only done for his own trees.
A project is also currently underway with Peter Warren, who is creating 2 bonsai through a collaboration of Eddie's work and 2 of his own trees.
Picture
Picture
I believe that the 'crossing over' of this celebreated artist from Studio pottery to bonsai ceramics will be beneficial to the ongoing evolution of European bonsai and its ceramics, which will also introduce the world of bonsai to the far greater audience of studio pottery enthusiasts around the world.
Picture

Look out also for the coming article in 'Neue Keramik' magazine - written by Eddie Curtis, in which the EBPC and Peter Warren have also both contributed, that examines this crossover between the field of Studio Ceramics and the more niche field of Bonsai.
'Neue Keramik' is a German magazine focused on ceramics, and especially 'new ceramics' with both printed and online editions. The magazine also has an English version, reflecting the international nature and popularity of the ceramic field.

WELCOME to the EBPC - Michal Mokry

A great talent from the Netherlands!

Please join us in welcoming Michal Mokry to the EBPC family.
Picture

Michal Mokry is a very talented bonsai ceramist from the Netherlands, currently producing exciting glazed bonsai pots in contemporary designs, inspired by core traditional styles.

Picture

A selection of Michal's beautiful glazed mame and shohin  pots will be available in the EBPC online store tomorrow - Friday 28th March at 18.00pm (GMT).

EBPC DIRECT - Your pot will be send to you DIRECTLY from Michal in the Netherlands (inside the EU)!

Don't miss out on these wonderful pots!

Mindful of the intricates of bonsai display, this artist strives to creating pots that work most harmoniously with a tree. With clean straight lines and often seamlessly integrated feet, the tree remains the main focus of the composition, yet on closer inspection the shibui quality and dynamic glazes never fail to astound!

Pots are made by a variety of methods, including ‘kurinuki’ hand-carved mame sized pots, and slab building for the Shohin and larger pots. Michal has also made some of his own forms/moulds by way of 3D printing, which he uses to help form the main body of more complex designs.

Read more about Michal and his work in his
EBPC 'Artist Profile' here!

We are very excited to welcome Michal to the EBPC family, and a selection of his beautiful glazed pots will be available in the EBPC online store tomorrow
- Friday 28th March at 18.00pm (GMT).

... As a bonsai related artform, Suiseki has long been displayed at high level bonsai exhibitions, both as an accent with a tree, as well as on their own. Thanks to their high power of suggestion, such stones reflect the essence of landscapes, people, animals and other objects.
Through the art of suiseki, Kawasemi Studios help us to experience the entire universe and cultivate a mindful approach to ourselves and others.
Picture
Picture
'Our aim is to provide everything you need for Suiseki: stones, the wooden bases, Suiban, matching scrolls and also education and knowledge. Like this we want to share our love for stones and fine arts as well as raise people's awareness of how to combine elements in displays'.
Picture

Kawasemi Studios was born from a passion for Suiseki, nature and ceramics.
The creators, Swiss couple Nadja and Sandro Tschudin, live by Lake Lucerne amid the snow-capped Swiss Alps, an idyllic location for Suiseki - both stone appreciation and Tanseki (stone searching trips).

Kawasemi add an exciting new dimension to the EBPC.

We are delighted to welcome Nadja & Sandro into the EBPC family and look forward to learning more about the world of Suiseki and Kawasemi Studios.
